I have a doctors appointment at 1:45 and I'm pretty sure He's gonna put me on antibiotics for my yucky throat.
Are there any I should stay away from? I know my doctor won't know the answer and he will go look it up but that usually takes him sooo long and I know Alex isn't gonna want to stay there any longer than needed

tia!

I found this site to be useful, and here is the list of anitbiotics that is ok to use:
http://www.kellymom.com/meds/aap-approved-...html#antibiotic

I would only use this as a reference and be sure to consult your doctor

I was put on antibiotics (some pretty dern strong ones, too) because of my Csection with both my first and last one. My doctor was pretty pro-breastfeeding (thank goodness) and still is supportive with my (now) almost three yo BF...Any antibiotics that I have ever been given (from my lovely infected tooth to the ones for both Csections) have never been a problem. None that I know of off the top of my head were even mentioned to me, as far as I can remember.

One thing that I might mention is that my oldest has an allergy to Sulfa drugs, and those can sometimes be used in antibiotics. I am sure I never took any of those when I was BF him a long time ago, but something you might want to watch for as my Family Dr says that type of allergy is fairly common.

IMHO, tell him "up front" you are BF *before* he writes you the prescription. I always did and most know of the "Safe" ones (at least some of them) off the "top of their head". Or maybe mention it to the receptionist or the nurse when s/he comes to see you before the doctor gets in there, and they can look it up BEFORE he sees you.

Just another note, I would still ask my doctor (even if it took a long time for him to go and look) if what s/he was prescribing was safe, as I would rather wait and be safe than be sorry later on......

Thanks for your replies. I should have thought of checking Kellymom...there are always great answers there.

Btw, the reason I didn't want to wait around was b/c I was expecting Alex to be a little nudgy in the office. He of course wasn't and I worried for nothing.

Dr. put me on amoxcillin for my throat. I hope it works quick

Actually, glad you didn't - I found a good resource that I didn't know about before.

And about 24 hrs on the amoxicillin before you will probably feel anything - but hope it works sooner for you and you are feeling better really really soon!!!

OK, now another project for ya - how about classifying some of those links - there are getting to be quite a list of them, and if someone is looking for a particular topic, it would be easier for them to find??

Just another suggestion to keep you busy on the board instead of at your R/L <-- (and there's another abbreviation) job - wink.gif

This is going to be part of the full blown web site that I am in the process of doing the design for. But for some reason, work and RL keep getting in the way. LOL biggrin.gif
