Ashley doesn't care too much for baby food lately. The ped said we could give her soft table foods, but not sure what to give her at 6-1/2 months. I am afraid of her choking.

Any fresh or frozen veggies soft cooked and slightly mashed (avoid canned - too much salt), ground meat cooked well done and crumbled, cooked rice or pasta, slightly mashed sliced bananas, strawberries, ripe pears (soft). Really, anything that's not really hard will work. Avoid grapes, hot dogs, hard apples (although cooked ones would work) or raw veggies of any kind, as they can pose a choking hazard.

Also, honey shouldn't be given to infants under 18 mos of age as it has a type of bacteria that can be hazardous to infants. You can read about it here: Your Baby's Tummy Isn't Ready for Honey. My ped was great to remember to remind me about that one with Anders, but I was suprised at how many peds didn't mention it to new moms.

Thanks for the ideas.

My Ped did say no eggs, honey, or peanut butter until they are older. But, she did not give a whole lot of ideas for table foods.

OK, since I am getting ready for another one, (even though s/he will not be ready for table food for a while) I started looking and came across this really neat teether/feeder. You can put just about any kind of food in it, and don't have to worry about choking because of the mesh design.

Go to Toys R Us, then to the baby section. Search for Baby-Safe Feeder - it will bring up the product. Basically, you can put anything inside the sack, and then baby chews on it and nothing big enough to choke will get thru the mesh!

What a concept.

If anyone decides to try it, let us know how it works....

Wonder if it's top-rack dishwasher safe? hmmmmmmmmm...............

We're going to ToysRUs this weekend to shop for cradles, maybe I'll see if they've got one and I'll check it out (not buy one yet of course, but look for sure)!

ya I have seen thoes baby safe feeders, its in a catalog I have called One Step Ahead, it says it allows you to feed babyfresh fruits, vegies, and meast safely (while teaching baby to chew). Also says is makes a terrific teether-just fill with ice or frozen fruit. Dishwasher safe smile.gif for ages 4 months to 2 years. You can see it on line at there web site www.onestepahead.com item #05318.

They have some really unusal things I have never seen before and would not have thought of. Check them out.

Thanks for that info - now I won't have to go and take a look when we're out and about this weekend, especially since I really won't be needing one any time in the near future wacko.gif

hmmm, I'll have to look into it. I wonder if Ashley would use it though, she likes the spoon and likes to feed herself.

But it has a handle so they can self-feed - maybe that would satisfy her urge to hold something and the "hand to mouth" movement - just a thought.

your welcome

I first thought how weird but now that I look at it I might get one when Kaitlin get older and try it, could not hurt to try.

If anyone tries it let me know how it goes
