Ive been breastfeeding my son for 7 months now. He sometimes has 1 bottle a day of formula and its usually just a couple ounces to top up his dinner or depending how stressed I am he sometimes needs a little extra to fill up. Some days he gets no formula. Im wanting to slowly start to wean him. How should I go about this? (I didnt bf my daughter). Would I start with switching his morning feed to a bottle? or should I do afternoon or bed time then work my way up with another in a week or 2?

I can't give you an answer as I did child-led weaning.
This website is awesome for all BF issues. Here's a link on weaning and especially mother-led weaning. Hope it helps. GL! Weaning This post has been edited by coasterqueen on Aug 31 2009, 06:50 AM -------------------- ~*Karen*~

Thanks Ill take a look at it tonight when Ive got no distractions. Since Riley has started crawling he keeps crawling over to me if Im on the floor and just trying to help himself, and for some reason that bugs me..I havent quite figured out why but it does.

this may happen sooner then expected. I woke up with an abcess tooth. Im in so much pain i could barely get words out to make an emergency dental appointment. So there more then likely going to put me on antibiotics..and depending what they put me on I might not be able to BF him apparently

I hope you feel better.
9 times out of 10 for common things, such as this, a doctor/dentist can prescribe you medication that you CAN take while breastfeeding. You just have to demand it. -------------------- ~*Karen*~

ya the dentist last night told me not to breastfeed while on it (penicilin) Then the pharmacist told me I could and even brought out 2 huge books and looked it up for me. I have to have 4 teeth removed next month that are 'beyond repair'. I have 4 abcess teeth all at once. |

Dr's always say you can't breastfeed on antibiotics. kellymom.com will give you a list of safe and unsafe meds. Good luck with the weaning when you decide. Annika was a self weaner. No wait I take that back she would still be nursing now.
