Has anyone taken this before? Can I take it, say, 10 pm tonight and wake up fine at 6 am? Does it really help you sleep?

Last night was night 4 now of some sort of insomnia. Last night I did get a few hours of sleep, which is better than the 3 nights before that, but still snooze.gif . I am so dog tired I'm about ready to bust out in tears here at work. I NEED sleep. I'd go home now and take one and try to get some sleep but if I want to spend Megan's birthday tomorrow with her I have to work today. sleep.gif

I think 10 pm is too late to take it. It helps me sleep, but leaves me so groggy the next day. snooze.gif

I've had insomnia lately, too. hug.gif

ETA: There's a simply sleep that is supposed to be good.

It helps me sleep when I cant sleep. However I take it at like 8pm and get up at 7 just fine. But I dont go to sleep until around 10. I dont take it very often though.

I have taken them and they do work, but like Aimee said, they leave you groggy sometimes. If I only take one instead of the recommended two, I don't feel as groggy, but it still takes me sometime to feel like they wear off.

I'm going to second Simply Sleep. Tylenol PM left me feeling a bit hung over the next morning. Simply Sleep worked much better. I did take it about an hour before I wanted to fall asleep, though, so it had a little more than 9 hours to work it's magic.

Karen, it will knock you right out. however, it's just a sleeping pill mixed in with acetominaphen, which is the active ingredient in Tylenol. if you're not in pain, there is no need to take tylenol, get an OTC sleeping pill instead...it's the same thing, minus the pain killer/fever reducer.

The "sleep aid" in Tylenol PM is actually an antihistamine...so it's just like taking Benedryl, plus the acetaminophen (Tylenol). So however you react to Benedryl is how you will react to the Tylenol PM.

Thanks everyone. I'm chickening out - at least right now. If I don't get any sleep tonight I'll take it tomorrow night when I have more time (Saturday morning) to be a bit groggy. blush.gif

Karen, as mentioned already the ingrediants of tylenol pm are just tylenol and benadryl, so if you are nervous, how about taking just one benadryl and seeing if it helps you sleep? the tylenol pm isnt really that strong....just take one and see if it helps, but I think I would take it at 9p it might take a while to make you tired, and see how it works.

That's me on Tylenol PM!

So... just beware to for SOME people (not many, but some) it has the opposite effect. If you decide to take it at all I would definitely take it for the first time on a night you aren't completely obligated to be up the next morning!

Also, you probably know this, but tylenol is definitely one of those medicines you can quickly become dependent upon to get to sleep if you do it often enough (I had a friend that did and had to go through a lot to be able to sleep unmedicated again). So even though you most likely will anyway, be careful! wink.gif

Edited to add: Oops... well I missed where you'd already posted! I'm glad you slept well, but it's good to keep in mind if you're ever having trouble sleeping again happy.gif

I think everyone reacts differently - for me - Benadryl makes me a total zoombie the next day but I could and used to take 2 tylenol pm and slept great and got up no problem the next day - pre kids that is - once Olivia got older I used to take only 1 at nite now I don't take any cause I am afraid I might not hear Dylan and at the moment have no trouble sleeping - something about catching up on the first 8 weeks of no sleep!!!!!

Try it out when you can afford to be really out cold if that happens and can be a zoombie the next day if that happens!!

I swear by melatonin, in the herbal section. I usually take a half to a whole pill, a half makes me feel like I've had a glass or two of wine, a whole one conks me out. But I'm never groggy the next day and I like that it just gently drifts me off, doesn't incapacitate me if the kids wake up in the night.

I did not find this to be true at all. When I took Benedryl, it zapped me out. Actually made me unable to function for hours. However, when I took Tylenol PM, it wired me, leaving me unable to sleep. It was awful.
