Okay last week I started on Zoloft.... well anyways a few days later I noticed the samples the doc gave me were ALL expired, some from 2004. I called the office and they said I could still take them. I have stopped taking them.
What do you think? Should I continue taking them or what? Any experts out there please help me! Thanks! I am NOT a fan of taking/ eating/ drinking out dated stuff! This post has been edited by 1lilpeanut2love on Dec 13 2006, 09:26 AM |

Well I am no help but I was told that when they expire is because the shelf life of them which means they arent as potent, or as strong as they normally would be. Thats what I was told. But I am no expert so I really couldnt tell ya. I wouldnt take them.

You might call the pharmacy. I certainly wouldn't take them though.

I take paxil, which is sort of a sister drug to zoloft. I was told by my dr that the meds retain their potency for years, and I in fact have taken pills that were several YEARS past their expiration date when my prescriptions run out before I have a chance to renew them. It's always been fine, in my own experience.

I agree with Jeanne. Most medications are fine after their expiration date. There are a few that get stronger and are not recommended but most stay the same for a long time then gradually get weaker if anything.
I think taking them is harmless. -------------------- Brenda, a mom and wife in love with my family

I think I would check with the pharmacist too, I am also not a fan of taking expired things, and since its 2004, not just one year, it might be worth asking for some more recent samples
