wink.gif Hi,

I have a 2 month old, Andrew..and it seems that I can't get him to take a nap during the day. He falls asleep in my arms, and then I put him in his crib and he either wakes up right away and cries or he is awake with 10-15 minutes. Any suggestions...I've always heard that babies are supposed to sleep 12-15 hours a day....not my baby!!

Thanks for your help...

Hi and Welcome! wavey.gif

Sounds like my Ashley. She was never a big sleeper either. But, some things you might want to try:

1. At that age, some babies need motion. Maybe try letting him nap in a swing. Or, a bouncer.

2. You may want to warm his sheets. Sometimes when they go from Mommy's warm arms to the bed, the cold sheets wake them up.

3. Some people carry their babies around in a sling and let them sleep in the sling. I never did this, but some people swear by it.

4. Try music too. Ashley would go to sleep to the song, Underneath It All. I just made a post about that right before your post.

You may have a baby that just doesn't require a lot of sleep. Ashley is 6 months old and is suppose to still get 14-1/2 hours of sleep. She only takes two 45 minute naps and sleeps for about 9-10 hours at night. She is very happy and is doing well so I am not too concerned about it. If she were fussy all the time or wasn't developing well then I would be concerned.

I hope this helps!

Oh, one more thing. Some babies that age still like to be swaddled -- wrapped in their blanket. By 2 months, Ashley didn't like to be swaddled any more, but some babies do. It is a security thing. Instead, Ashley likes to sleep next to her bumper. I can lay her in the middle of her bed and she will scoot (in her sleep) until she is next to the bumper. If I didn't have one of the AngelCare monitors, I'd worry constantly!

Hi, I had the same problem with my little one Kaitlin, so during the day she usually sleeps in a swing, bouncer, or a the sitters she sleeping in a bassanette with music and at night I have to swaddler her (she is now 3 months old). It took me a while to learn to get her wraped tighley but I finally got the hang of it. I also have to put her in one of thoes zip blankets at night. I really think she likes the warmth. I was worried about her getting to warm so she is in either a t-shirt or light pj's. I had to try many things before I found what worked best at night so I could sleep to. just keep trying different things and hang in there you will find what works for you and your little one. I hope we can help.

Yes, the swing, although they don't use it for very long (in comparison to other things) was a wonderful baby "tool". If you can "swing" it (excuse the pun) I would try to get the electric one, because you don't have to worry about using the very noisy winder on the manual model. Mine always jumped sky high when I wound it up (it was before they really had battery operated ones) but with the last one, when we started all over again, that we got the electric and it was absolutely wonderful. He would sleep as much as 1 1/2- 2 hours in it at nap time. And was great for eating (for us) without having to juggle baby on lap - plus he got to "sit at the table" too - we just pulled the swing up to the table and left it off - great!

I found it easier to sneak away during nap time if we laid down to nurse and they fell asleep already lying down. Much easier to get up then. Mine also took better naps on the couch in the living or in their grandmas' bedroom, with the tv blaring spanish tv and them yapping away in spanish than they did if I tried to put them down in a quiet room.

There were times, if I missed "the window" of putting them down, that I would have to hold them for their entire nap. The window is about 10 minutes after they fall asleep ... put them down then or just enjoy the cuddle time for two hours. smile.gif

Kaitlin prefers her bouncer, it has the gentil vibration, but she does use the swing. We got one that runs on batteries ...I was worried about it tipping, so we got the one low to the ground

I couldn't get the sling to work for me (have since seen others use one and feel I can "do it" now), but we used a swing and I bought a Bjorn... I absolutely LOVED my bjorn. It went everywhere with me. smile.gif
