Question for homeschoolers

Platinum Member Group: Members Posts: 7,628 Member No.: 2,419 Joined: 28-August 05	Is there any sort of testing or requirements for the parent that is doing the teaching? I'm just curious because some friends of SIL's have decided to homeschool their youngest. I was thinking that there would at least be a requirement that the parent/teacher have a HS degree or GED (I don't think she has either).

Diamond Member Group: Members Posts: 19,113 Member No.: 3,038 Joined: 3-January 06	In NM the teaching parent is required to have a GED or HS diploma and has to provide a letter of intent and proof of GED/diploma to the state 30 days prior to beginning.

Some require degrees (from assoc. to masters), some just GEDs, some you have to go through the school board, some just through an association. If you're interested, I'd definitely google your state laws. (Here in SC you only have to have a HS diploma or GED, and you can choose whether to go through the school board or an association.)
