My daycare is closing for 2 weeks so the employees can attend some training. What do they seriously expect people to do? I have no family who can watch her, no friend who are not working at this time? Just wondering what others would do/think.

I would be getting a new day care...thats insane.. and not only that how much notice did you get? No one can be expected to come up with child care like that.... -------------------- Stacy, wife to Peter, mom to Caleb, Jakob, and Andrew

yes i would get a new provider/daycare. Usually when that happen they need and shoudl provide you with some kind of back up care. And usually daycares dont make all the workers go at the same time because of this reason...

I can see sending one or two of the employees and then rotating them through the training-- then they would just need to get a sub for a few weeks, but closing the entire daycare for two weeks is insane! I suspect they will lose business over this. Not very good planning by management. -------------------- |

Apparently it is special training out of the state and they get 2k in grants for playground equiptment and learning toys out of it. She is allowed to take 2 people with her and there are only 2 others that work there.
I have been stuck with this daycare becuase I work as early as 5am and as late as 8pm and dh does construction and they don't charge if he shows up within an hour or not at all. She also varies from 3 days a week to 5. and they put up with it. My job sucks. I want to quit. lol |

Is this a family childcare or a group center? If it was a family daycare provider that gave a good ample notice, then as long as it was to further her business and education then I would understand...considering it would better the care for my child! Usually at a family daycare the only "teacher" is the provider herself. Seldom to they have assistants and usually those assistant are not certified to be alone with the kids. If this is the situation, I would ask if the other two teachers are certified as "lead" teachers to be alone. Not all are. I do think though, that the provider should provide some backup care, or at least a list of names for backup care for the parents to call and arrange care with.
If this is a group childcare where there are different rooms divided by age, then I would be outraged. If the owner is going for grant money, there is no reason the other two teachers (assuming this is a group center and the other two are licensed teachers that can be alone with the kids) can't remain with the children while she goes alone. If she would need the other two teachers to go with her to recieve the money, then she should be putting the needs of her daycare families first considering that is her revenue. I guess I'm just curious as to what type of center this is. Depending on the circumstances I would either be irritated, or just mad...but like I said, if it's a family provider I would understand more.
