I'm not a big fan of coloring your hair at home (I've had too many bad experiences) Well, the last two times I colored my hair, I've done it at home because I don't have the extra 50+ bucks to spend on getting it professionally done right now. I colored it about a month and a half ago and I loved the color. It was called chocolate peanut butter and it turned out a medium/light red-ish brown. Very pretty. Well--it was time for a touch up so I colored it last night. This time I picked a shade LIGHTER because I eventually want to go pretty blond (highlights) The color was called almond creme (natural medium BLOND) and for some reason my hair is DARKER than it was before I colored it. And it looks horrible, it's not even a pretty color. Anybody know how soon I can dye it again? Or should I just wait a week or two and go get it professionally done? I'd rather not have my hair fall out just because I don't like the color. The ends of it also gets really dry looking...... Oh--I'm so frustrated!

An option for you is to go in to get it done, and have them strip the current color out, as opposed to either of you trying to re-dye it. Get a trim at the same time and that should help on the very ends at least.
Hope it all works out! I've done the same thing before myself- how frustrating! -------------------- |

BTDT There is a drugstore version of stripper too, I can't remember what it's called but I'm pretty sure it's by L'Oreal. It will turn your hair carrot orange so don't freak out, but then you can color it again.

I have no idea what I would do, sorry. I only go to the salon because I'm too scared to try anything from the store.

I have never dyed my hair....but I remember when my best friend did a while back to touch it up and hers came out super dark almost black looking. But she said after about a week and washing it more all the extra color came out because it takes a bit for it to ALL wash out, and it was fine and the right color. So maybe that is all it needs. But again I have never dyed me hair so I dunno. Good luck.

You can also try washing it with liquid dish soap....it strips your hair pretty well. You'll need heavy duty conditioning afterwards, and it's not recommended to do it more than twice a year but I had to do it once and it did take a ton of color out.

You can buy color stripper at the drug store but TBH this is why I stopped using store bought dye in my hair because you can never ever be sure as to what color it's going to turn out. I bet if you waited a week or so the color will fade out a little bit but...I wouldn't want to wait that long if you absolutely hate it. I would pay the extra $$ to go get it done. If you absolutely want to dye it yourself again, I'd say you only have to wait 2-3 days, it never hurt my hair when I did that, but I've heard of it doing damage to other people, it just depends on your hair I think. Sorry I'm not much help but IMHO I would go get it done just incase you do any further damage. The products they use at the salon are more natural and far less damaging to your hair (at least the places I've been) and I've noticed my hair has been a heck of a lot healthier in the past few years that I've been having it done versus when I did it myself.

The hair I wish I had...lol Group: Members Posts: 21,560 Member No.: 157 Joined: 4-May 03 |
I usually do mine myself....mainly because it grows so fast that It would cost me a fortune to keep up with if It was salon done.
I did dye it a bad color one time and I wish I would have just let it ride itself out a couple weeks and redid it a different color. It was really hard on my hair. I also had it professionally dyed right after and it really dried my hair out. I say...Give it a couple days of washing before deciding. -------------------- Brianne

I haven't dyed my hair in a really long time... the last dye job was about 3 months before Naomie was born I'd guess.... so anyways.. I' haven't dyed in in nearly 3 years. But before that I'd always do it myself... the one time I went and had it done at the salon, they screwed it up, it was burgundy, and my forehead was stained. I wanted light auburn, almost chestnut.. oh well. My hair's nearly black to begin with, so whatever.

Okay--so I decided not to mess with it and it has lightened up ALOT, just from normal washing. It's still not exactly what I was going for, but it'll work for now. I even got compliments on the color so it must not be that bad. I was just annoyed because it turned out so much darker than I wanted it. Anyways, I do normally go to the salon (the girl that does my hair is awesome) so I'll probably go in a few weeks and have her make it cute again. It's in need of a good cut anyway!
