Medical Alert Bracelets

I just ordered Spencer's sports band. It's hard to believe that he needs to have one. But with a severe allergy to Kiwi and Blood Products, it needed to be done. I feel a lot better knowing that this is something that he choose and will wear everyday. Now if I could just convince Emily how important it is for her to have one, she's allergic to Pennicillin. But she won't. She says that her friends all know about it and they have the info at the school. But I don't think that's enough.

I am severly allergic to penicillin too, I never even thought to get a bracelet in case I can't tell someone that.

Kirsten, I really don't anticipate this will be a problem for Spencer in a peer setting. I recall quite a few kids in my peer group who had Medic-Alert bracelets, and the only issues were questions regarding the reason. I don't really recall any teasing issues at all.

Kirsten, they make necklace one's as well, would Emily wear that? You need to stress to her how important it is, just because her friends know, doesn't mean that if she's rushed to the hospital that THEY'D know right away. They have to look that information up on their puter's, and sometimes they don't bother till it's too late and a medication has been given.

Friends panic in an emergency, how many of them would even think, or remember, to mention it??

Thanks Ed! I wasn't really thinking that this would be a teasing problem, it's just that Spencer has the habit of "forgetting" his epi pen. His first excuse was that the hip pack was too big and wouldn't stay up around his waste. But we found one in Toronto and it fits him perfectly, he's so skinny! The teacher will aways have an epi pen in her desk, but that isn't going to help if he is out on the playground or at a friends house. The sportsband, looks like a watchband, it's really quite neat and I think it will make him aware of just how serious his allergies are.

I brought home a pamphlet from the hospital and I showed her all the different kinds. But she still refuses. She wants to have contacts, so maybe we can convince her to get one, if we get her contacts. She's a stubborn one, I have no idea who she gets this from.

Here is where I purchased Wil's bracelet. My order was received very promptly. I recently had to order extra chain for Wil's bracelet and that arrived in only a few days. Very helpful over the phone, but you can do it all online too.

I agree that friends don't think when they are under pressure or in shock. I feel comfort knowing that an EMT can look at Wil's bracelet, call the number and get all his information. The bracelet says that he is allergic to tree nuts and seeds, which he could tell anyone himself. But if he passed out and I wasn't there, they could call and get my number, my parent's number, DH's number and other relevant info.
