I had my second appt. today. Nothing major happened, they drew more blood and told me my blood type is O- and said that means I have to have shots during pregnancy ( I don't remember doing that with Dylan) That's no fun. We heard the heart beat again. wub.gif I just love it. She said everything sounds good and normal. I get to go back in two weeks for my ultra sound. I can't wait! wub.gif This will be the longest two weeks ever.

Sounds like a pretty good appointment! I love hearing the heartbeat. wub.gif I've never heard of having to have shots because of your blood type though that's weird - it might be something i've just never heard about though. happy.gif Are you sure they didn't say Rh negative? I know that if you're Rh negative you have to have shots of Rhogam in case your baby is Rh positive.

No, I'm sure they said O- actually I already knew what my blood type was, I've just never heard of having shots because of it. Oh well, I guess I'll find out.

WOW! I just realized how close you are to having your little one. Congrats, you must be excited! Won't be long now....

Huh that's interesting! I wonder what it is about O neg blood that makes you need a shot? I have O positive blood I think. Does it have anything to do with what blood type your Dh is I wonder? Sorry I'm just so curious. tongue.gif

And yes I can't believe how close I'm getting either! ohmy.gif The time has been seeming to go slow but now I'm realizing that even if Allie comes late she'll be here very soon!! wub.gif

Ok I did some searching on google and apparently all pg women with O-neg blood have to have Rhogam shots because O-neg blood doesn't have any antigens in it, including the Rh factor. happy.gif

the reason for the shots is that your baby's blood type is positive and yours is negative...without the shots the pregnancy would literally be h*ll for you, thank God for those shots.
it's also possible your baby's blood type is altogether different from yours in which case your body will see it as an invader and try to reject it and the shots preclude that from happening.
