I dropped K off at the daycare center today and the teacher handed me the pre K cirriculum. So unbenownst to me, she's already in pre k, they just don't accept the vouchers that the state gives you for free pk.
So, I was all freaked out for nothing. Go figure, story of my life. Anyway, so tonight I went to my mothers and more meeting and one of the girls is a teacher here in our county. She told me the rules for testiing up a grade. The districts are totally inflexible about allowing kids into pre k and k without them meeting the 4 years old by sept 1st cutoff. However, if the child has been in private prek and kindergarten, they can test into first grade. Good to know. -------------------- Cary

That's how it is at Maddie's school..if you were in pre-k or transitional kindergarten you can actually skip kindergarten altogether (if you test high enough). But, she goes to a private school. I'm not sure the public schools around here do that.
What a relief for you to find that out though. |

Wow! I wonder if that is just for your county or school system. You can't test up until 2nd grade here. That's great that she's doing the pre-k thing now too!

glad that you found out now you can stop stressing over it. I will have to find out what the 'rules' are here and see if Kait can get into 1st after she finishes K in her current school, it woudl make her a year ahead but If she is ready then no sence in not moving her foward.

Glad it's worked out for both of you!
O's school will let you test out of 1st grade, too, depending on how Kindergarten year end assessment goes. It's only happened twice in 10 years, though, in her school (and I doubt O will be the 3rd! ) -------------------- Cheryl, Olivia's mom

That's good to hear that she's already in preschool. Saves a lot of stress since you obviously already like your dcp.
