What are you putting in your gardens this year?

I have 8 6x6 garden beds to decide what to put in each. I'm going to do hanging tomatoes this year, after talking with Dh about it this morning, so I have more room than normal.

I know I'll do a bed of corn, green beans, potatoes, lettuce/broccoli. I also have a bed that has strawberries in it. I usually do cucumbers and carrots, but Dh said he thought we should skip the carrots this year. I think I'm going to try peas as well. So I have two more beds to fill.

I always do peppers. Also, depending on the amount of room you have around the beds, eggplant can be good. I grow it every year, but the plants grow out, not up as much, so I always have to allow for plenty of space around the radius.

I am doing hanging tomato plants. and spinach and carrots and peppers.
then pumpkins and watermelon for the kids garden.
I may also see about doing some herbs this year

I planted tomatoes, broccoli and cabbage in October. Last month I planted onions, potatoes, green beans, 2 kinds of squash and cucumbers. I'll put in a few other things in the next few weeks.

oooh onions....I completely forgot about those. I think I'll add those this year. I think we did them one of the first years we did a garden. We are definitely using onions quite a bit and will more now that spring is here and will be cooking on the grill more.

I went ahead and harvested cabbage yesterday. I ended up with 6 good heads of cabbage. I cooked some up last night and darn it was good if I do say so myself. Now I need to find something to replace the plants I took out. I am thinking about some eggplant but not sure what else.

Wow! So is that what you get out of one season for cabbage? I've thought about planting it as we use it in roasts, but we don't use a TON of cabbage.

I normally plant two kinds of cabbage but this year I only planted one. Like I said these plants were put in back in October. Out of the 9 plants I planted I got 6 “good” cabbages. I planted about the same amount of broccoli and got a good bit too. But season in over for us because it’s getting to hot. It was 93* here Friday!

I planted Eggplant, Bell pepper, Banana pepper, Watermelon and Cantaloupes this morning.

How do you make hanging tomato planters??? I really want to do that this year. Last year our tomatoes took over the entire garden! We have a very small space, but if I hung the tomato it would save a lot of space. I also might use some above ground planters this year too. Last year we planted:

tomatoes
wax beans
green beans
strawberries (they're a perrenial so they come up every year)
jalapeno peppers
green peppers
cucumbers

I'd like to plant cantaloupe, but our garden is just too small for it. I think I might grow a few corn stalks and zuchinni this year as well.

We tilled up our garden this weekend and added some more dirt. We also bought all our seeds so we are ready to plant....if it would stop snowing.

So we are going to do:

Tomatoes (regular size and grape tomatoes)
Strawberries
Corn
Green beans
Peas
Mush Melon
Watermelon
Baby carrots
Cucumbers
Onions
Potatoes
Brocolli
ETA: Lettuce

You guys are making me want to garden! I don't have a place to do it though, and DH won't get around to making me any raised beds in time so I'm going to give container gardening a shot. So far all I have is tomatos, I'm still doing my research on what to do and what to do it in.

I am seriously slacking this season.

Mostly due to lack of space.. and moving again in the summer.. so, no point. I've got a few cherry tomato plants going now, they're only a few inches grown.

I have some parsley plants and basil plants going, too. I haven't bothered with the rest, although I'd like to, it just isn't feasible this year.

I have way to much for my little garden, so I am branching out to the strip along my garage too.
This year I have

asparagus

then I am putting in

cherry tomatoes
big tomatoes
corn
green, red, and orange bell peppers
acorn squash
broccoli
pickling cucumbers
big cucumbers

and I will have dill and chives growing in a container on my deck.

wow. that is a lot. I just got overwhelmed. Where am I gonna jam all this stuff?

You have too much time on your hands, Tara. Can you come over and help me out? I barely find time in the day to do a load of laundry or wash a cup.
