My son's naps used to be 1 1/2 hrs. morning and afternoon. Just last week he started waking after only 30 minutes. Tooth #2 just cut through yesterday so #3 & 4 may be right behind, but even when I give Tylenol or Motrin to ease the pain he's still awake after 30 minutes. And he's still tired but just won't go back to sleep.
PLEASE HELP! I am out of ideas on what to do. -------------------- Naomi, Wife to Tim & Mommy to Thomas (7) and Andrew (2)

My daughter is the same way. Use to nap for 2 hours and now only 30 to 45 mintues and she wakes up tired, cranky and full of tears. She's only 3 months though. I don't know what to do either.

Have you tried Oraljel for the pain? When Jade was cutting teeth tylenol just wouldn't do. If you know where the teeth are actually coming in this stuff works great. Even when you don't it does help.

I think Thomas was 4 or 5 months before his naps became longer than 30 minutes....and not in his swing!
He HATES Orajel...but I will try it...I'll try just about anything. -------------------- Naomi, Wife to Tim & Mommy to Thomas (7) and Andrew (2)

It might be the teething, but I think 9M's is some type of turning point in their sleep pattern. Trei-Trei used to sleep so much, that I thought I was too boring for him, or something. Then, right around 9M's, he started only taking 2 30-40 min naps at school. NOW, he's only taking one. I've pretty much had to change the whole routine around; like having a "light" bottle when he gets home, and he'll take another 20-30 min nap, then gets up, to eat .......
Anyway, if it IS teething, might I recommend Hyland's Homeopathic Teething Tablets? They seem to work great for Trei-Trei. I've tried them on my tongue, but really couldn't tell you what they do, but Trei-Trei's eyes light up when I mention the tablets or show them to him. You just put them in their mouth, and they dissolve instantly. At first, it's a little messy, but you might want to just rub the tabs in and along their gums. IF they work, the child will not fuss or spit 'em out when given them in the future. Let me know how it goes. Best of luck, and hugs for the little one. |

You can also put the tablets onto a teaspoon with a little bit of water...this is what I use to do with Anthony..
There's also a slight chance that Tylenol or Motrin has the opposite affect on him and keeps him awake. Is he cranky when he's up? If not then he might just need the one small nap. Good Luck. -------------------- |

Thanks for all the advice ladies. I do use the teething tablets and he takes them like candy! But I find that when it's bad they don't work very well.
When he only naps for that 30 min, he'll let me rock him and he'll fall back asleep but wake right up when I put him down....so I think maybe it's his gums bothering him and he knows it'll start hurting if he's laying down again. Funny thing though is that they haven't bothered him at night. -------------------- Naomi, Wife to Tim & Mommy to Thomas (7) and Andrew (2)

Nora has always taken cat naps. It's frustrating, but I'm not sure there is anything that can be done. If it's teething that's the problem, at least you know he'll be back to normal when the little bugger pops through!

UPDATE: I noticed tooth #3 broke the skin this morning and #4 is about to....that makes 3 teeth in one week....this might explain it! He's napping now, let's see how long it lasts!

Kensington is also 9 months old and used to take wonderfully long naps. She takes naps that are like 10-20 minutes now. Ocassionally she will take one longer. She is like my oldest who used to take really short naps. My middle used to take really long ones. I miss that! LOL
