Claudia has been having accidents on and off for the past 5 months. DH didn't think it was serious. He just figured she got to busy playing and held it too long. Anyway last week she had an accident at school. Luckily we have always put a change of clothes in our kids backpacks. But the school called to let us know. Over the weekend things got pretty bad, she was having 2-3 accidents a day and her urine was really strong smelling. This is starting to affect her socialization at school, her self esteem. When she wakes up, she smells like urine, but her bed isn't wet. When she comes home from school she smells like urine. It's just gone on too long. She has also been complaining of abdominal pain off and on for about a year.
So this brings us to yesterday! I took Claudia to the ER. I figured if it wasn't a UTI they would run some test and at least try to figure out what was wrong. We got there at 9:00 in the morning. They gave us a specimen cup and by 10 we were finally called. We were brought into a room and I explained what was going on. Then we waited and waited and waited. By 12 we had run out of goldfish crackers (I packed a snack for her) and I went to the Nurses station and explained that she was hungry and that I couldn't leave her alone in the room to get her something to eat. So they brought her a sandwich and some juice. Shortly before 1 the doctor finally came to see us. Her urine was negative. So I once again explained the other symptoms. He didn't even examine her. The doctor told me he was going to get a Peadiatrician consult. Finally at 2 we were told we could go home and that the Peadiatrician would call and set up and appointment to see her the next day. By the time we got home Claudia was doubled over in pain. Crying and holding her tummy. We gave her Motrin and called Telehealth. They told us to watch her and if she developed a fever or if the pain got worse to call them back. Which brings us too today! Claudia was still complaining of abdominal pain. By 11 the Peadiatricians office hadn't called us. So I called the ER and they gave me the number. I was told that a consult had been set up and that no one would be seeing her today. I was given the number for the Peadiatrician. I called the office and they told me that, nothing was really written down and that they would call us in 2 weeks to set up an appointment. The receptionist told me to call our Family Doctor and get in to see him today and have him set up an Ultra Sound. We were very fortunate and he saw us today at 4. He ordered blood work, did another urine sample and ordered an ultrasound. The urine came back positive for blood, he decided to hold off on the antibiotics until the cultures came back. So we go down to the lab to have the blood work done. And they close at 5. We got there at 4:55 and they wouldn't see her. So we went to book the ultrasound and we have to wait 2 weeks before she can have that done. What really pisses me off, is that if the doctor at the ER had even examined her and did all of this yesterday we would be a lot further ahead. I'm so upset right now. I'm just ready to strangle the ER doctor. SORRY THIS GOT SO LONG This post has been edited by Kirstenmumof3 on May 18 2010, 07:11 PM -------------------- |

So, at this point, they have done nothing for her???!!!!???? OMG, that is awful. Poor Claudia! Be Careful, I wouldnt' wait two weeks, UTI's can be dangerous. And, if it is not a UTI and she is in this much pain, I think it is important that you get answers. It sounds like it could even be a kidney infection at this point. I don't blame you for being furious. I think would take her back there and let them know you are not leaving until they do something for your daughter.

Thanks Dee Dee, tomorrow Claudia has an appointment with a different Peadiatrician. Unfortunately the referral was to have her tested for ADD and another referral would have to be made in order for this Peadiatrician to see her for these issues. Which doesn't make sense to me. We went through the same thing with Spencer, we were referred to one Peadiatrician for the ADD testing and another for the issues that lead up to him being diagnosed with cancer. The Peadiatrician that we are seeing tomorrow is the same one that Spencer has been seeing for the past 4 1/2 years and the same one that Emily saw. So we'll see if she is willing to deal with Claudias other problems. I really hope so. I don't know how much more of this Claudia can take. Claudia was also treated just before Mothers Day for a UTI. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

That is just awful!!! Poor Claudia!!!
If it is a UTI maybe some cranberry juice would at least help a little... though as long as it's been it may not at all. I would give it a try though. I would also be sitting in that waiting room until they did something for her! -------------------- |

what about a kidney stone? I wonder if its not large enough to occlude her but just enough to feel, and cause the blood in her urine and pain?
