Well I can honestly say after (one day short of) 4 miserable months bf'ing I AM DONE!
Johnny has managed to loose an entire FREAKING pound since getting out of the hospital thursday night. I have been offering him bottles after he finishes nursing just to make sure he really is getting enough since I noticed a hge dip in my supply while pumping while he was in teh hospital. He will very rarely take any extra and when he does it is less than an ounce. He gained over a pound with the feeding tube and formula, then lost it now that I can nurse again. I can officially say I have tried more than anyone could actually expect to try to make bf work and it isn't. He is now on formula and if he doesn't put all the weight back on ASAP I will start using his G-Tube to force feed him the high cal formula. -------------------- |

I think I say for us all, we applaud you for bf this long under the circumstances. I hope that formula will do what he needs. The important thing is that he is fed whether it be bm or formula. You might think about feeding both bm and formula and see if that helps before you dry up, that way he'd still get the benifits of bm and the calories of formula, just a thought. Good luck.

I Agree!!! You've done such a wonderful job thus far Lisa! You've had so much to deal with over the last 4 months. I hope it works out with the formula. KUP!! -------------------- Erika

Gosh, I wish I knew what was going on! You did such a great job... I just hope he can turn this around and start fattening up!

Thank you. I am really at the point where I wish I had gone straight to formula from the begining so I wouldn't feel like I somehow failed him. I "know" that I didn't but It would have been nice if had gone a little easier for the time it's lasting. I did tell dh I would pump once or twice a day until I dried up and would give it to him in bottles until that point.

You gave him a good four months. I agree with the rest of the ladies. You went above and beyond and fought some serious obstacles.
