wow... just wow.

Our first priority is to get every child out of the building. We have evacuation cribs in our room (I'm in the 14-24 month toddler room) and we have other individuals who immediately come to help to get children out.

We have to have our children's emergency contact records, our daily role and our first aid bags when we leave the room.

I think a lot of what makes people so nervous/hyper when there's a fire alarm or drill is that the daggoned fire department comes in once a month and lectures you if you don't have everyone out of the building in a certain amount of time (they want everyone out ideally in less than a minute). We all understand the need for the time, but more important is knowing that every single child makes it out of the building safely. I'd never forgive myself if someone got left behind because I was rushing to get out within the time constraints when stopping to do a double check head count would take all of five seconds.

And in the end, if there's a real fire, there aren't going to be firemen there to give you a lecture. The drills are there for a reason and to teach you to do things effeciently when the alarm sounds... not to make you do a haphazard job and put a child's life in danger.

There have been so many horrible daycare stories in the news lately. Just recently, a daycare worker gave the kids window cleaner to drink thinking it was blue cool-aid. WTH??? How do you make that mistake??? It's really scary when you are a parent and hear these stories on a consistent basis.

ohmy.gif How scary!

One of the many reasons I went with an at-home provider. I needed someone who could be a second mother to my children, literally. Terri is a part of our family, so is her husband as well. There isn't anything I don't trust her about, and most importantly she basically only has my children to take care of, not a bunch of other kids. Well, she has our friend's kid, too, but that's it.

There were 3 employees and they couldn't get 8 children out? Really? Wow.

I worked in a daycare a few years ago and there was 2 of us in the toddler room and somehow the both of us (we were also both pregnant) managed to get more than 8 children outside during a fire drill.

Ok, I can understand this...

They also failed to bring the portable emergency records meant to help contact parents.

The last thing on my mind would be to grab the folders or documents.

BUT, I can not for the life of me fathom leaving a child there. Gee...how about walking back to the center and grab the other child???? No matter how many children you can carry at a time, you don't just leave them there...GO BACK FOR THE REST!!! Duh! rolleyes.gif

Morons.
