Hey guys, I just found this message board and thought maybe I could share my experience and see if anyone else has had anything similar.

This is my third pregnancy and I am due on Feb. 14, 2007. My last two pregnancies were text book.....everything went perfect. I have been spotting for the past two weeks and my doctor has checked out EVERYTHING...even sent me to a high risk specialist to do a higher powered sonogram. Everything is checking out fine....but I wont quit spotting! UGH....I am so worried about this....anyone have any experience with this?

I had some spotting early on with my last pregnancy. I was terrified, and I'm sure you are to. My OB gave me something called progesterone inserts (expensive, but only used for 3 weeks or so). It is supposed to make the uterus walls stronger. My doc said it was being used as a preventitive and if nothing was wrong .. it did no harm to me or the baby. Few days after using it the spotting stopped. BUT this was in my first trimester.

I have heard about others with Low Lying Placenta that have had some spotting in the 2nd and 3rd trimester.

Try to relax as much as possible. Ask your doctor if he thinks progesterone would be an option - or if not.. make him give you some kind of answer as to what he thinks is going on.

Let us know.

Thanks so much for the replies guys! smile.gif The doctor did say I had a low-lying placenta but he wasn't really worried about it. My next appointment is Tuesday the 29 and I will definitely mention the progesterone.

The only good thing out of this whole mess is I found out we are having a girl last week during the sonogram with the specialist! I have two boys so I am very excited about this pregnancy!

It is just so stressful....everytime I go to the bathroom I dread to wipe for fear of what I will find. sad.gif So far all of the spotting has been brown or very light pink and the doctor just doesn't seem too concerned. I am a basket case. I hope this spotting stops soon or I will be half crazy by my due date.

Are you on any medications or taking anything over the counter? Certain meds will make you spot.

Yep, had it almost through my entire pg with my second baby. I didn't stop spotting til almost my 3rd trimester. rolleyes.gif They found a very small tear that was causing the bleeding, my progesterone was low so I was on that for awhile, and I was on bedrest on and off up until my 3rd trimester. Guess they should have kept me on it longer because Megan came 4 weeks early. rolleyes.gif The placenta was also almost covering my cervix causing problems as well (low-lying).

If they aren't finding anything then I would try not to worry. I know, easier said than done. I never stopped worrying and even felt distant from her than I did with my first pg because I was scared of losing her.

ETA I just read your other post about your low-lying placenta....that will cost spotting.

Thought I would give an update......

Went to my appointment yesterday and all went well. My doctor insists the spotting is "nothing to worry about". He maintains that since the cervix is fine and sonograms show a healthy baby and placenta....that it is just "one of those things".

Oh well, so much for insisting on a reason....lol. wacko.gif I haven't spotted in 2 days so maybe, just maybe, it is gone.

Oh, and I wanted to add that I am not taking any over the counter meds.

Hope everyone is doing well and I'm so glad I found this board. smile.gif

If you have a low laying placenta that is the reason, it's called placenta previa in most cases and it will probably clear up on it's own, I had this very same thing. You should abstain from lifting anything over 10 pounds and you should not have...sexual intercourse until it clears up! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, it is odd to me your doc is saying this is nothing, because if it doesn't go away then it can be really serious and cause premature birth! I Could be wrong and it isn't placenta previa but I'm almost positive that is what a low laying placenta is...am I right guys, or am I totally off here?
