I was just wondering how many people actually use the bumper pads in the crib.

I was told it could cause SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrom), I did get an AngelCare Baby monitor that has an alarm that should tell me if my baby stops breathing but I don't know if I should put my whole trust in that monitor and go ahead and use the bumper pads.

The hubby wants to use them since we did get them at the baby shower and it makes the bed look nice, where I'm still soso on it.

So I thought I'd come on here and ask for some input and maybe that will help me make a decision.

I DID NOT use them at the beginning. I put them on after about 4 months or so. I left them on for a few months until she started messing around with them and she also tore the string on the bumper. Best of luck on whatever you chose!!

I used them because they kept getting their legs and stuff stuck in the crib.

I used the bumper pad too. I was never told about it causing sids or anything else that could harm my baby. We took it out when he could stand up on his own.

not that my kids ever really slept in the crib but i did use them. just tucked them down into the mattress so there was no way baby could get under them.

I used them the whole time and it was fine. Last time I checked though the medical society didn't know the exact cause of SIDS. What they are afraid might happen with bumpers is suffocation. But a newborn doesn't really move around that much, and by the time they do move around a lot SIDS risk is dropped drastically. So, I personally don't see a problem with them. They do have mesh ones if you're really worried about it. I think they sell them at Babies R Us.

I have been using them since about 4 months when he moved from the bassinet to the crib. I've tried taking them out and he doesn't sleep well without them. Just be sure to keep stuffed animals and loose blankets away from the baby and I'm sure it will be fine, especially since you have the monitor. happy.gif
