What's going on??? Ever since the time change, Wesley is getting up every morning around 4am and wants to eat. Last night he got up at 12:30am! snooze.gif The kid has been sleeping through the night since 6 months (that would be three months ago), so why now is he changing back to his old schedule??! Mommy needs her sleep!

I need some encouragment here ladies! I really want to get to 12 months with Wesley, but I'm feeling the urge to throw in the towel. Of course Wesley won't take anything but BM, so of course I have that major motivating factor. I'm only venting, but I'm sick of wearing nursing pads wherever I go and my nips are seriously looking like...okay, I won't go there! laugh.gif

Anyway, back to the topic...Any advice on getting him to sleep through the night again. A friend suggested he may need more calories during the day, so add another feeding, but I have always fed him on demand and don't really know how many feedings he takes. Another friend suggested I wake him right before I go to bed and top him off, so I tried that and he STILL woke up around 4am.

Should I assume he's going through a growth spurt? We have his 9 month checkup tomorrow, so I'll talk to our ped about it, but just curious if this is typical.

sounds like a growth spurt to me. Kaitlin would wake normally 1 time a night to feed and when she would hit a growth spurt it would be 2-3 times talk about tired. wacko.gif it would take a week or two but she eventually went back to once a night.

does he eat any solids yet?

Nope. dry.gif You all have heard me gripe about it, but I'm actually not as worried as I once was. He's such a big kid and looks and acts healthy, so I'm not that concerned. But I do think it would make my life a bit easier if he did. wink.gif I'm going to bring that up at his appt tomorrow too, because maybe that's why he's waking up again...Because he isn't getting enough during the day. I don't know anymore. unsure.gif

maybe try before bed, instead of during the day with cereal or veggies. Kaitlin LOVED sweet pataotes and squash, but hated cereals until we go to trying oatmal.

Thanks for the advice Di, I mean that sincerely, but I have tried several types of solids. Most of the veggies, fruits and cereals. Even combos, even finger foods. I've tried using my finger, I've tried letting him drink it out of a cup or even let him spoon it in himself. Either he's just not ready or my kiddo has a thing with texture. He does the gagging thing. We have his appt tomorrow, so I'm going to talk to our LC about it all. I'll keep you all posted. Hopefully he will sleep better tonight. snooze.gif

Sometimes if they are learning a new trick (crawling, climbing, ...) they will wake in the night to want to 'practice' their new skill. Or maybe something in or around his room has changed and is waking him up. Most likely it is a growth spurt, 9 mts is a normal time for that.
Good luck.

Probably a growth spurt. Megan slept pretty much through the night til she got her 2 year molars then she was up several times a night. It's hard, but you can make it through it. thumb.gif

(((HUGS))) mama, night time nursing can be tiring. Have you been able to master nursing while lying down? It took me awhile, but once I got the hang of it, it made nursing at night so much easier! My babe often sleeps nearly ALL NIGHT with my nip in her mouth. I usually sleep topless and she just latches on when she needs. Usually I don't even wake up. Anyway, I hope things get better. Keep sticking with it, you are doing the BEST for your child by continuing to breastfeed him. wub.gif

Well, Lauren is still waking 1-2 times per night. Last night it was 3 times! We usually feed her just to keep her quiet and not wake her brother. We had a two good nights where she slept all night and then the past two nights have been awful again.

Lauren has been on solids for almost 2 months, we just started adding lunch in last week, she was only getting it before bed. Honestly I didn't notice a difference.

Well, I wanted to wish you luck! I understand the whole nursing pad, etc. I am weaning as we speak and my goal today is to not pump while at work, I didn't even bring it. I nursed her this morning and it may be the last time sad.gif I've got tons of BM frozen, plenty to last till she's 1!

I even put on my regular bra today smile.gif

Well - good luck, let us know what the ped says.

our little guy is almost 17 months and he still wakes at least 2 times in the night to eat. do i think that he needs it, nope. i think it is a comfort thing to put him back to sleep. our two others were pacifier babies, so thats how they got back to sleep. also he is still in our room, so that makes it easier on him and tougher on us. we are about to transition him to his own room this week, i just don;t want to be getting out of bed three times a night to get him. i'll let you all know how we all make out and give you some new ideas if all works well
