girl... when did you get worried with her weight and such? ZIm just curious because jennas cousin who is almost 7 months old is very small for her age. The doctors arent too concerned yet. she is 7 months old and weighs.11lbs.. (she was 6lbs at birth) so she is a little underweight. She is eating baby food like crazy though. Her mom is a good friend of mine(ex's sister) and she is starting to get worried for her weight. She is advanced in her motor skills. at age 2 months she was already standing with someone holding her. she locks her knees and loves to stand rather sit. She took supported steps at 4 months.

She sounds like Katherine as far as motor skills. This child has been doing things quicker than I can learn about them. Stinker. wacko.gif
Her dr has been growing more concerned about her weight over time. She was 7lbs 6oz at birth and right at 50% in everything. her weight has not followed the curve though and it has dropped to 1%. I think that they may want to just ask their ped if it may be a problem. Our ped mentioned her concerns about weight at the 9 mo appt, & took blood to test for anemia & metobolic problems, scheduled a weight check at 10 mos & 11 mos & got quite concerned by 12 mos.

I just looked at K's weights and here they are:

Birth: 7lbs 6oz
15 days: 8 lbs 2oz
4 wks: 9lbs
8 wks: 10 lbs 5 oz
19 wks: 12 lbs 12 oz
6 mo: 13 lbs 9oz
9 mo: 15 lbs 10 oz
12 mo: 16lbs 13 oz
13 mo: 17lbs 3 oz.

11 lbs at 7mos seems small to me but I would definatly mention it to the ped.

wow looking at yor daughters stats Kaitlin is not far off about 1/2 pound more at 6 months and a few oz she is 16lbs at 9 months. My ped did not seem concerned, she does not follow the curve but has been droping in her % each time. Guess I will worry at 12 moths if she is further off. I just though she was petite. In fact when I asked about it she said it was fine since Kaitlin was more mobile, an dwas to be expected that she did not gain as much.

Kit Kat's Mom-
Whatever happened with the blood work? Did I miss that? I've been thinking about you guys, probably b/c we're in the exact same boat!

Thanks for asking. We did a "fasting blood draw" on Wednesday morning. We should have the results back by next wednesday. After my bad appt with the endocrinologist I was on the phone all day with every LC in town & LLL. I also emailed Dr. Jay Gordon & Dr. Sears. I've already received a response from Dr. Gordon. He said that from what I've told him so far, it isn't as dire as the endocrinologist said. He even reccomended that I find a new endocrinologist. He said that I need to focus on feeding her calorie dense foods (avacados, mayo, meats and cheeses) but that he doubts seriously that her growth or brain development will be stunted in any way. He wants the results of the blood work emailed to him and he will probably be requesting more info. I think that is so cool that this nationally know ped is helping us. At the very least, he is helping me feel better.

I borrowed a baby scale from the hospital and I've been weighing K after each nursing (except at night) and it does appear that she may not be getting enough breastmilk. I have the scale until Tuesday am so we will see if her intake goes up but she should be getting 2-2.5 oz per lb so about 34.6 oz min and so far she's averaged about half of that. I feel really bad that my supply may be an issue but I am just going to really focus on feeding her more solids. She is doing a little bit better.

i'll be very interested in what Dr Gordon has to say. I really respect his views, and I would be thrilled to have his opinion as well. Could you keep me posted? My email is : jeannechun@yahoo.com

thumb.gif That's great that Dr. Gordon is helping you and interested in the case, and has eased your mind a little . Please keep us posted on what he says and how the test results come back. I think your endocrinologist exaggerated and caused undue histeria. It might not be a bad idea to look for a new one!
