I'm interested in the vonage phone service, but wonder if it's worth it. I have dsl through bellsouth right now, and would like to keep it. I just wonder how difficult it is to change the service over (we'd have to change our phone number too), and if the total bill is really worth the hassel. I don't really like the idea of having just one phone in the computer room, but (esp since it's cordless) it'd be worth $40-50 a month to have to walk down our short hall to get to it.
Anyone have this?

we have it and love it. We have phones all over the house too. Way less than Verizon's monthly service
ETA: the free long distance is awesome too. Now I use that phone instead of my cell to make long distance calls for work and so my cell bill has dropped also. thumb.gif

Do you have more than 1 phone that isn't plugged in to the computer? Also, did you have to change your phone number? If so, was that a problem with your dsl company?

They give you a thing that you plug into your phone line so all of the jacks are active (at least I think they do...DH handled all this). That has to be the case because our direct TV has to be connected to a phone line and it's hooked up to a jack in the playroom. It's still working.

We did have to change our phone number. We actully have fiber optic not DSL but I dont' think it was a problem either. Just let everyone know that your number's changed like you normally would.

Also, a few other perks that are nice about vonage. You can manage your voice mail online. We have ours set up to email us any voice mail messages. It's nice to have them pop right into your inbox if you miss a call.

I remember a post about you have to do something different to get 911 on vonage. Is that true? Or what is the deal w/that?

We love it! I can't begin to tell you how it was all set up--I have a DH with those skills and it works perfectly. We have 5 phones hooked up on it and have not had problems.

yes, that is true. You just have to go to the webpage (where you can also check your voice mails and phone history, both incoming and outgoing) and click a few things to activate 911 service

Oh, that's great! I thought you could only have the one phone that hooks directly into the computer! My DH is more likely to be ok with it now that I found out we can still have the phones everywhere.
Thanks!
