My ped says baby benadryl can help just at night to ease the drainage and in turn ease the coughing, plus can help them nod off when they're feeling so yucky
So if anything is to be used, Benadryl would be the best?? As for me and the girls, we are not medication lovers. I will give them meds for a fever mostly. I have given them cold meds in the past, but I seldom take any meds~i believe as most of you do, that the body is designed to take care of itself. That is why I am even reluctant to do give the girls anything. But I have. blush.gif Now I will think twice about it.

You Vicks lovers, have you tried the waterless ones that heat a pad w/Vicks and send the vapors out?
We have used the patches for kids, for their coughs. It did not really work, and Christian hated having anything sticky on her chest.

My PED and the urgent care doc we just had as well as the pharmacists here at Walgreens told us Benedryl is a NO - NO.

I've never used cough syrup for Daniel---I'm a non-med person as well. I always want the body to do what it can on its own, with environmental aids like humidifiers and sleeping more propped up for drainage, stuff like that.

Wow, how come? That's the only thing I'd had my pediatricians and pharmacists agree on. Just curious. How old are your kids?

3 years and 9.5 months. My ped did hesitantly agree to the safety of it for long travel we took just recently but only if need be. But we didn't need it.

They have antihistamines in them and it just makes them sleepy and doesn't really help their symptoms. The pharmacist said the same thing and that they should only be used if child has severe allergies and under supervision of doctor.

Mine all do have really bad allergies so I guess thats why she recommended it. Thanks for passing that on though, now I know it's not for general use.

I understand about the drowsiness, I am reluctant especially because of that. It throws their schedule way off. But I would think that Simply Stuffy or Simply Cough, is harmless. There is nothing but that medi in there.

But from now on I will be more cautious than before about meds. wink.gif

I am usually a non-med person myself. I don't like taking medication unless I truely need it and I'm that way with my kids. I tried a cough medicine with Jade once. It did nothing for her cough so I didn't give it to her again. In the end I whip out the vicks vapor rub or the snot sucker (Jade loathed that thing rolling_smile.gif ). Jade's colds always have a natural course and she actually gets the cough towards the end. It's how I know that it's on it's way out. I have been fortunate in that Jade has only had maybe two fevers her whole life (knock on wood) and the ones she had were mid-grade.
