I am going to cloth diaper this one, and thought i would make my own to save $, but I don't really know where to get started. I have a pattern, it calls for birds eye fabric. Anyone have a clue? Is that like flannel? can I use flannel? where can I get affordable organic flannel? does someone have a clue that can walk me though this? huh.gif

Tara, I am sure you can find a way to make organic fabric - ya know, grow a cotton field rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

oohhh I see. thankyou.
do you have any idea what it feels like? cause the lady at the fabric store I went to today had no idea what I was talking about. So, is it like flannel-ish? or t-shirt ish? or what?

It is like...... crappy cloth diaper fabric. I would practice with whatever you find the cheapest at the fabric store then once you get good at sewing them (because guaranteed you will mess up multiple times) then worry about good fabrics that you like.

crappy like it doesn't work well? what have you found that works well?
I had 1 3/4 yard of scrap that I think is similar to that sample, I'm using that first to see how things are going. I don't have and PUL, otherwise I would just make a few tonight to see how it goes. it doesn't seem like it would be very absorbent.

I typically would do a suede cloth inner (like bum genius) then microfiber soaker layers. I bought the PUL but never did use it... Not sure why
if you want to use more natural fabrics I am 100% sold on bamboo. They are so soft and super absorbant. Bamboo velour is what I use when the kids are sick to wipe noses. There is nothing scratchy, it will hold whatever and naturally antimicrobial. Check out the craft board of diapperswappers.com you will find out anything you might possibly want to learn about most ki ds of crafting but obviously there is a lot of diapr sewing and knitting talk there
