Parenting Club Forums > All About Being Green > Natural bug repellants for plants

I have little tiny black flies all over my outdoor potted flowers and I think they're killing them. Is there anything I can use that's natural to kill them? I don't know what to get here that says bug killer.

Diatomaceous earth usually works on just about everything I've ever encountered in our landscaping and garden. It's completely safe - I use it on my vegetables. thumb.gif

for some reason I never have issues with bugs blink.gif even before I went green I never had to use pest repellents of any kind. My issue is just birds.
Now watch, I'll go out side and my leaves will be all munched. rolling_smile.gif

Wasn't sure if she could buy it online. happy.gif

I think it all depends on where you live. If you live in a subdivision/burb area I'm sure you'd have less bugs than if you live out in the country with corn fields and woods all around you. happy.gif I know many friends that live in town don't have the issues we do out here.

I don't think I could get that close to actually see the bugs, they are covering the stem of what I think is some sort of sunflower, it sort of looked like that on the package. The bugs are really really pin needle size black flies, very tiny.

If you still need a pic, I will try my best to get one tonight.

Sorry... I'm no help at all.

They could be your standard garden variety aphids, I'm not sure what to do about them though.

eta: I just saw you said they fly, they could be fungus gnats. My grandma used to make a mixture of vinegar and dishsoap to spray on her garden plants, that might get rid of them.
