helping me make an allergy free snack list?
I was asked by our church to make a list of allergy free foods that dont contain nuts, peanuts, eggs, milk, for Jakob..
since all manufactures change their ingrediants and products frequently, I wondered if it might be fun to put together a list here that can help us all try to keep up with the changes in these foods.?

we started working today

oreo's
honey maid grham wafers
raisins
fruit cups
ritz crackers the large ones only.
fig newtons
fruit chew snack
fruit roll ups

I would totally have assumed that Oreos had milk in them. We never had to avoid eggs or nuts but staples for us were the Whole foods cereal bars, I believe the brand is Annies chocolate gram bunnies, Yummy Earth lollypops (which are totally allergen free...and very tasty), 365 veggie sticks, and snyders pretzel rods (and only the rods)
I cant think of anything else off hand.

you would have to insure that people brought in the EXACT brands of snacks you listed, I can see someone seeing oreos on the list and picking up those generic hydrox cookies, which may have milk in them.

Stacy, don't most of the baked items you listed have egg and milk in them? I don't buy many of these, so I am not sure.

I buy very basic crackers for Wil, like the oyster crackers from Trader Joe's or saltines. Everything else may have traces of nuts/seeds. Even Ritz scare me because of where they are processed. Veggie sticks are ok, pirates booty, stuff like that. But mostly I do fresh fruit like the "cuties" clementines. He loves those! Apple sauce, fruit leathers, plain cereal like cheerios, carrot sticks. But no packaged cookies. Fig newtons seem to be ok for him, but natural brands.

Do you guys have a Trader Joe's?? They are SOOOOO good about labeling.

Oh popcorn is a good one. Although it may have traces of milk if it's buttered. Again, look for natural brands that don't share production with nuts.

Sorry, me again....We just got back from the park and there was a mom I didn't know asking if it was ok to give Wil some of her son's snacks. I told her no and told her why. Well the snacks she had are called "Crisps" - you can get them at Costco in the chip section. They are dried peaches and apples. The bag says "peanut/tree nut free, gluten free, soy free, dairy free, non GMO, vegan, kosher. I had never heard of them. Sugar is a bit high IMO (6g for a little bag). But I may go buy some as a "treat" for Wil's lunches. Just FYI.

Rae, we are still considering Jakob allergic to milk right now, but he has a build up effect for his allergic reaction to milk.he cant drink it, but he can do cheese and some foods with it in it, as long as its not in excess. he also can do some foods that might have egg whites or very minimal egg in it for some reason but if you put an egg directly on his skin or lips he gets immediately really sick..

we are going in for more testing in march..and we think the peanut allergy might be gone..we have never tested it, but twice now there has been a contact with no reaction and his last skin test was neg for nuts.

so there is hope!

yes absolutely true, and not only do they sometimes change what ingrediants they use but they dont update their lables, thats why there are always food recalls...the allergy alert system email can send email alerts if you sign up about foods that have been found to have these issues.
