I was running on the treadmill today and first this woman comes and takes the treadmill right next to me. There were several others open and as a rule of thumb, I never take the one next to someone else unless it is a friend or there are no other ones open. Oh well, I let that one go. Well, about 5 minutes later, her friend arrives and goes on the other side of me. Then they start having a conversation over me. Mind you, I am running and they are walking. Also, had the original woman taken another treadmill like she should have, they could have been next to each other and not having to shout over me. It was so distracting and inconsiderate. Maybe they don't take excercising seriously, but I do. They continued chatting for in excess of 15 minutes. They are lucky I wasn't PMSing or I would have told them to take it elsewhere. Ugh.

I don't think it's rude to take the machine right next to you, however when you're trying to work out and they are having a conversation over you, that IS rude. I would have said something for sure.

Though I probably would have offered to switch with one of them rather than listen to them talk over me.

Dito! Not rude to take the one next to you IMO, but rude to talk over you. I would have made a lot of nasty stares at them both and then complained to the management (maybe). blush.gif

Uh... I don't see it... sorry? I dunno... I don't think it's rude... well maybe a little inconsiderate, if there were plenty of other machines... dunno.gif

I have had a similar situation happen to me and I must agree that I would have just put some headphones on and ignored it, or at least attempted to give them angry stares if it got too annoyingly obnoxious.

I would have made a rude, portentous noise, pretended I was taken by surprise and explained that always happens to me when I run.
