I know there is no joint in your breastbone, but mine has popped a few times in the last month. Yes, I know how weird that sounds but I can feel it needing to pop and then I twist until it does. Today it happened and now my chest hurts on the right side, especially when I exhale. There is a knobby little bone that is kind of straight up from the breastbone that is super tender to the touch, almost feels like a bruise, and if I push on it at all the pain goes all the way from there to the whole right side. Any ideas? I know it's nothing life or death but it's very annoying that I can't even sit here and breathe without it hurting, and it's bugging the crap out of me that even though there is no joint there, something is popping |

I haven't a clue, but I might would call a dr. just to be sure it isn't something that need tending to. Hope it feels better soon! |

I talked to a friend last night who said I described the same exact thing as when she cracked her sternum (don't ask me how I might have done that ) and it just had to heal on it's own I do have a dr appt in August anyway so hopefully if it's not gone by then he'll have something to say about it. |

Mine does that all the time. When I put my arms over my head and lean back to stretch I can feel and hear my sternum crack. Its always been that way. I used to have pain associated with it, but not anymore. I don't have any advice about it tho. |

I'm sooooo glad to hear that because everyone looks at me like I have two heads and says "But there's not a joint there " |

I sometimes get something like that that I think is a pulled tendon or ligament. I never actually hear anything though - more like I just feel it. It you can actually feel it outside your skin and hear something I might go get it checked. Might have broken a rib or something???? |

You can see it and feel it, it looks like a big lump about three inches below where your collar bones meet. My mom and MIL both freaked out on me today but it's actually hurting a little less so I calmed them down |

My sternum pops often, especially shortly after a workout. I've not experienced pain such as you described though. Hope you're feeling better. |
