Do you let your kids join online game sites or virtual worlds? Which ones are the best? I want to sign up my daughter to one...

There are many hundreds out there. Much would depend on the ages of your children and what interests them.

we let our 8 yr old son play wizard 101
only because you can set the parental controls very strict,so they can play and not be contacted or contact anyone..and we can play on another computer with him at the same time.

Will plays different things, but only on very restricted sites, unless I'm sitting right beside him the entire time. Even on the restricted ones I only step away for minutes at a time... I'm paranoid about the freaks and the smut.

I let Ashley play online games but only ones that do not allow chat. For example, on webkinz, she can chat in game but only with pre-selected messages. Most of the games she plays are single player. She really likes funbrain.com and coolmath.com. Here's a list of some other sites that pc members suggest:

Webkinz is about it for my girls. Luckily they aren't too interested in the computer right yet. Kylie would rather sit and read than get on the computer. tongue.gif

I started to let my kid play Fantage.com - similar to webkinz and club penguin- but i like these features better.. and the navigation is easier... the no chat option is great so that madeline can't chat with whomever-- but they do filter a lot of words and phrases!

jacob is on facebook but i have the password, not him.. so i monitor which apps he uses and who he adds.

the other kids have bought computer games that don't require internet and of course DS, Wii, PSP lol

My kids love funbrain and coolmath too. The rest of the stuff they like to do on the computer is offline, like kidpics.

I prefer the online game sites.

There are many geat online resources. We are now using a lovely education website called beestar. It includes math, reading, science programs full of real world problems to help kids thinking. Since all the worksheets are timed. DD usually does the practices as games. Pretty cool. happy.gif
