So, thankfully Spring is finally hitting Michigan and we can now open the windows at night to let some of that fresh air in. Problem is, now EVERY morning, about 5am Lindsay (5yo) is waking up - either crying or coming into our room - because the birds are chirping and scaring her. I don't get it! Never bothered her before this. Since she is in an upstairs room, and it can get stuffy, cracking the window (I mean it was open about an inch this morning) to let the fresh air in is the only way to go and get the air moving. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? She does have a radio in her room that she falls asleep to but she does not like it on in the middle of the night, just when she first goes up for bed. I'm so tired because at 5am it's just not worth going back to sleep for an hour so I just stay up...

ETA: To clarify, she is asking us to close her window when she wakes up at 5a and then goes right back to sleep.

Maybe try an alarm clock/radio that you could set to music for the alarm...maybe keep it turned down low enough that it doesn't blare and wake her up but sort of mask the sounds of the world waking up?

I like Monica's suggestion. You could also try a fan as it might drown out the birds chirpping.

LOL! I'm totally there with her. Darn chirping birds wake me up EVERY morning at 5am. I'm ready to get a bb gun!

I was also going to suggest some type of white noise like a fan! Poor baby!

Ditto on the white noise - either a fan or a sound machine. But I know those dang birds are so loud in the mornings and it might not be enough to drown them out unless you've got the fan on high. tongue.gif

My suggestion is to use the white noise machine and get a simple timer, so that it doesn't turn on until 3 or 4 in the morning, so the baby doesn't realize it's come on.
