how long did/ do you use your high chair for? i am debating whether or not to get one for Jade. i am thinking while she is little, i can feed her in her car seat or swing and when she gets bigger i can get a booster seat since they are much cheaper.

any advice appreciated here. i just really want to know if you all think it is worth the investment or not and what brands you all prefer.TIA.

i don't know what brand ours is but we got like a 4 in one type high-chair. it was $70 but we got it on base, so may have gotten a better deal. it can be used for when they are small (slanted a bit), you can use it when they get older (sits straight up), it has 2 different settings to either sit low or high and then when they have outgrown it, you can take the seat off and use it as a desk and chair.

i personally love the highchair because when they get older and are learning to feed themselves, you have the tray to put stuff on and it's right in front of them and with the tv on, he gets so preoccupied that i have time to do the dishes after we are all done eating and can usually get some cleaning in too!

my only gripe is there is like a cover over the chair made of like a vinyl material and then it has stuffing inside but it's not closed all the way..well i think it was made really cheaply because they have ripped and then taven sticks his little hand in and starts pulling whatever he can grab out and it makes for a nice little mess. the seat and highchair are made of like hard plastic though so it may not be that comfy..but taven loves hard surfaces..so it's perfect for us!

highchairs are great if you need to get stuff done and she needs a change of pace because you can always throw a bunch of toys on it and let her play!

hth some..at least that's my 2cents.gif !

I have a high chair for Emily (4mo's) and she uses it now. I strap her in, put a folded blanket on her seat to raise her up a bit and she plays with the toys i put on the tray. She sits with us at dinner time and she LOVES it!!! laugh.gif
Sometimes if she's a little fussy, i put her there and she's fine. I have a baby trend with a seat and height adjustment, its great!!!!

We have a high chair and I really like it. Jason will stay in there a bit after he is done eating. It wasn't too much money, I think it was 89$. I also have a booster seat with a tray for travel and I really like it too. The high chair has a bigger tray and a more comfortable seat so I wouldn't use the booster seat for every day every meal.

We got very lucky with our HighChair. We only paid $50.00 for it and it reclined so you could start out using it when they were small. I still use mine and Claudia is 18mths. With my first two children they were about 18mths and I started putting them into a booster seat, but with Claudia she is so tiny she probably wouldn't reach the table in a booster seat. laugh.gif

I think Ashley's highchair was the best investment we made (other than her baby bed). She started using it around 4 months old and still uses it now at 1-1/2 years old. I think she is too messy of an eater to use a booster right now. (Not to mention she would grab everything on the table) And, when she was younger she and more attached to Mommy, the highchair made it a little easier to make dinner. I could stick her in the highchair in the kitchen with me and she would play while I made dinner.

The highchair we bought was around $89 also. I love our highchar... it folds up easy, has different height adjustments, has 4 different positions. The fabric is easy to wipe off, yet it is durable and you can just throw it in the wash. THe only thing I don't like about our highchair is the "seams" where the plastic comes together for the arms that hold the tray --- the seams are on top and food gets in there. I have to use a knife or something sharp to clean in there every night.

HTH

We bought Olivia the Fisher-Price Healthy Care highchair. She has used it since she was 4 months old & we all love it. It reclines to different positions, has a 5-point restraint, the tray is removable & dishwasher safe, it folds easily for travel, has 7 height adjustments & the cushion is vinyl-coated, so it's easy to wipe off. The only thing that I don't like about is is there's a ruffle around the edge of the cushion that gets dirty & is hard to spot clean. The chair can convert to a booster, but baby #2 will be in it by then, so we'll buy a booster for Olivia when the baby is 4-months old. We also have a travel highchair/booster seat combination that you can strap on to a regular straight back chair. I'm not sure what brand it is because it belonged to a friend who passed it on to us after their children outgrew it.

We had a high chair with Maddie and Meg and it worked great but DH threw it out because it was kind of yucky. Brianna has been using a booster with a tray ever since she started eating solids. It works pretty well-I don't have any complaints but I will add that the only reason that we don't use a highchair now is because we haven't gotten around to buying a new one. rolleyes.gif

Well Kylie got one for Christmas in 2002, she was almost 4 months old. She didn't use it since she didn't have solids until 2 months later. Of course we did let her sit and play with dishware while we ate, but she grew out it WELL before a year. She's such a little chunk! Hehehehe. Good thing she got it as a present because it was a huge waste of money.

We were given a Peg Perego highchair as a present from Grandpa when Matthew was about 6 months old. We used it for him and we love it. Now with Thomas we used the same one until recently he has decided that he wants to eat at the big table on a real chair. The high can be wheeled to the table and used like a chair but he won't event sit in it for that so we have to look into getting him a booster seat. I tried to find a link for it but my highchair wasn't there. Oh well it is awesome.

I have the baby trend chair. It's OK. I like having a high chair because it contains the mess. He would destroy the table for sure. But I am SICK to freakin' DEATH of cleaning the da%% thing. Food just gets jammed in the hole where the thing sticks up between his legs. Gross!!! I take it outside and hose it off every couple weeks, and the cover is just about always in the washer. I would definitely go with vinyl seat cover...or perhaps a self cleaning chair? Would someone invent that for me please??? rolling_smile.gif

I got a cheapo one-position high chair with a vinyl seat as a hand-me-down (it was new, but the couple who gave it to me had received a much better one as a gift and never returned the cheapo one they had bought); it's worked great and it is easy to clean. Daniel still uses it---it contains him and the mess, and the vinyl seat really is a blessing. Right now, I'm sure he would scramble out of a booster seat before he was really done eating, because whatever happens that is interesting he wants to go there.

We have a Graco high chair that we got given to us. We started using it when Chloe was between 4-5 months, it would recline right back for her. I love the high chair a lot. The tray is huge so she can't get food all over the kitchen and when she doesn't eat in it, she will play with her toys while I clean up after meals.

We used a hand-me-down Graco high chair for a while, and actually still have it out because we haven't found a place for it in the garage just yet blush.gif We recently purchased a booster chair with a removable tray and wish I had just used this all along! Much easier to clean and we can pull it right up to the table for her to eat like a big girl, or put on the tray and drag the chair into the family room for "in front of the tv dinner night." blush.gif

I really like the highchair we have but K never really took to it. She used it for a bit but the only way she will really eat anything is to be in her booster seat with or without the tray or at her kid sized table. Otherwise she wont eat.

We were given the highchair we have now, but Jade rarely uses it. She would rather sit in her camp chair and eat at the coffee table. She just doesn't like to sit still.

thumb.gif thanks everyone for all your input! i am still not sure if i am going to get a full high chair. she still really loves her swing and can sit in her carrier car seat to watch me cook. she actually likes being down low where the boys are. my problem is, i would only use it for feeding and she is not even really eating yet and i am a CHEAPO laugh.gif !! i can't imagine spending $100-150 on something she may only use for a few months.

We got ours as a shower gift. It's the Graco Double tray. I probably would have picked out something not so big but I do love it. Mine reclines and we have been using it since Matthew was 4 months.

I really like the idea of using a highchair, however his is from Robbie which was actually given to me used by someone. Anthony sits in there now and watches me do dishes while eating a farley biscuit, or cherrios. If you don't wanna spend that much money on one they have some seats at Zellers that are about $40, it's a small chair with a tray on it and I think it converts to a booster seat for the table and chair.

Bry is almost 18 mos. old and he still uses his high chair. He loves to have his meals on the table with all the family. happy.gif
His high chair is one of those that you can turn them into a little table and chair set when the baby doesn't need the chair anymore... It's pretty cool, I'll se if I can find a picture of it.

I had the full size high chair for Corey for awhile (used it with older boys), but she never seemed happy or safe in it. She always managed to find a way out of the straps and stand up. Ds Noah did the same thing and actually fell out and suffered a concussion. So we wound up getting a travel one that straps to a chair in 2 places, has its own tray and folds into the size of a briefcase. It's completely plastic and very easy to clean, takes up less room in our kitchen, and she absolutely cannot stand up in it. It was cheap, too, only about $20 at Baby Depot.
